Putin cannot escape the consequences of the Russian withdrawal in Ukraine

This is exactly how the Kremlin is trying to spin this: by blaming the West. The message from Russian state media is that Russia is taking on the combined might of America, Britain, the EU and NATO in Ukraine. You name it, Russia fights it. In other words, setbacks on the battlefield are not the Kremlin’s fault, but the work of external enemies.
