Horror master Junji Ito is bringing his special blend of horrors to Netflix very soon – and you can get a sneak peek in a new trailer. The show, somewhat unwieldy titled Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, adapts 20 different stories from the manga artist, from iconic pieces like Tomie to cult material like Layers of Terror. Netflix says all of the included stories have “the common theme of madness,” which of course is pretty standard for Ito.
The trailer is a brisk run through the included material, giving you an indication of what to expect (namely lots of body horror and disturbing creatures) without giving too much away. Last but not least, the show seems to stick very well to Ito’s art style and bring him to life through animation. There is also a very cute cat.
The good news is that Japanese Tales of the Macabre isn’t far off at all – it starts streaming on January 19th.
