Dubbed “Mr Clean” by his supporters because he was a rare Nigerian politician without allegations of embezzlement of public funds, it came as a surprise to many when his name appeared in the Pandora Papers in 2021. This was a leak of nearly 12 million documents revealing hidden wealth, tax avoidance and, in some cases, accusations of money laundering by some of the world’s rich and powerful.
