“For now, the collection of parties supporting the Anwar administration seems stable,” said Tricia Yeoh, CEO of independent Malaysian think tank IDEAS. “However, it is a precarious situation where any major faux pas by Anwar could lead to discontent within UMNO’s grass roots, which could then escalate to the department heads, who are the influential power holders within the party.”
